This position is located in the N923 Division of the Fleet Readiness (FR) Department, Navy Region Center Singapore. The incumbent of this position performs duties independently in the food preparation area or the front counter in accordance with prescribed practices and general directions.
Responsible for completing sales transactions, operating a cash register, accounting for sales receipts, and providing customer service. Perform all types of cash register transactions (cash, charge, check, etc.) in a procedurally correct manner. Maintains change fund and accounts for sales. Completes daily activity report (DAR) at the end of assigned shift. Communicates effectively and knowledgably with customers in regards to products being sold. Prepares a limited variety of short order fast food items such as sandwiches, pizzas, Salads, etc. Prepare/slice meats, cheeses, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and other vegetables for sandwiches, salads, and pizzas. Remove perishable foods from the freezer for daily activities. Ensure beverage coolers are stocked. Makes coffee in large urns according to the number of servings desired. Operate espresso machine, blenders to make a variety of coffee and cold frozen drinks. Set up food service counters, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold food, including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter and beverages. Assures that tables/work surfaces are promptly cleared and cleaned. Clean other work areas to include walls, floors, equipment, and storage areas. Takes delivery of supplies and ensures proper storage of shipments after delivery. May unload food from trucks and move heavy garbage cans. Provide assistance to cooks in the food preparation area by weighing, measuring, and assembling ingredients according to standardized recipes. Accepts food orders from patrons and may serve alcoholic beverages. Spot checks the guest checks to insure that the information recorded is correct. Coordinates food and beverage needs for special events, not limited to preparing and serving food and cleaning work areas. Follow all safety, security, and good housekeeping rules. Perform other duties as required and assigned.
Must have skill and knowledge to perform tasks involving several procedures and be able to concentrate on work assignments despite interruptions and distractions. Must have the ability to read and understand written material. Must have knowledge of basic arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals. Ability to apportion, weigh, and measure foods properly and to use electrical appliances, grills, stoves, ovens, and other common kitchen equipment and utensils. Ability to operate a cash register or point of sale system, run a snack bar. A working knowledge of sanitation standards is required as well as knowledge of procedures to prevent contamination. Must know basic food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures. Incumbent needs a thorough understanding of the routine methods and procedures used in all functional areas of the food service operation and skill to train lower grade workers in such methods and procedures.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Satisfactorily complete all background checks to include National Agency Check with Written Inquiries (NACI).
Light to heavy physical effort is required. Frequently lifts and moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds, occasionally lifting and carrying up to 45 pounds.
Ability to work weekday nights, weekends and holidays.
Some positions have special requirements. Selection may be tentative pending the completion of the satisfactory employment reference checks and receipt of proof of education (where applicable). Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period. Participation in the Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer is required. Salary is commensurate with experience and/or education.
